Hickinbotham Series Trio Tasting: Three Micro-Parcels

- Duration: 60 Minutes (approx.)
- Location: McLaren Vale, SA
- Product code: BLOCKS
Our deepest dive into Grenache yet.
Some wine projects begin with a spreadsheet.
This one began by walking the rows.
For years, we wandered one tiny triangle of vines in the Hickinbotham vineyard in Clarendon. Tasting fruit, watching the seasons unfold and paying attention to the little things. The way the sunlight falls. The changes in soil. The subtle shift in slope.
The way autumn paints the leaves different colours at the top, middle and bottom of the small triangle of vineyard that makes up our Hickinbotham Single Site Grenache.
It made us curious.
Could a few metres really make that much difference?
For the first time, the answer will be in your tasting glass.
Aphelion's Hickinbotham Series Trio
Three micro-parcel Grenaches. One vineyard. Three completely different personalities.
Each wine was:
- Grown within metres of the others in the same tiny corner of the vineyard;
- Hand-picked on the same day;
- Made using the same winemaking techniques;
- Gently crafted to reveal the extraordinary influence of micro-terroir.
Each wine is strikingly different.
With just 360 bottles produced of each wine, these are some of the rarest wines we have ever released.
This is more than a tasting.
It's an opportunity to discover, compare, debate and experience wine in extraordinary detail.
Expect:
- A warm welcome and personalised tasting experience.
- A guided tasting of all three Hickinblocks (as we call them) side by side.
- The stories behind the vineyard, the wines and the Mack family who handcrafted them.
- An exploration of how aspect, elevation and micro-terroir shape flavour and personality in the glass.
- Time to slow down, ask questions and connect with fellow wine lovers.
- Beautiful views of gum trees, vineyards and rolling McLaren Vale hills.
You'll Taste:
Hickinbotham Series – Block 111
Bright red fruits, spice and energy.
Hickinbotham Series – Block 112
A rounder, more generous expression with warming spice and concentration.
Hickinbotham Series – Block 113
The darkest and most hedonistic of the trio, with blue and black fruits and plush tannins.
Which block will speak to you most?
